How UART works
Video lesson · in the full course
UART is one of the oldest serial protocols and still everywhere: for debug messages, logs, and for talking between a microcontroller and a computer. There is no clock wire; both sides agree on a speed.
What this lesson covers
- Baud rate: no shared clock
- TX and RX wires
- The UART frame: start bit, data, parity, stop bit
- USART2 on the Nucleo goes over USB
- The HAL send and receive functions
By the end, you can read a UART frame bit by bit and know which HAL functions send and receive data.
