How a timer update interrupt works

Video lesson · in the full course

A timer update interrupt fires each time the counter wraps around. It runs a piece of code at an exact, fixed rate, with no checking in the loop.

What this lesson covers

  • The overflow (update) event
  • The interrupt frequency formula
  • The repetition counter
  • Settings for a 1 ms tick

By the end, you can pick the prescaler and period for an exact tick, for example one interrupt every millisecond.
